HÉCTOR A. ACERO FERRER
Héctor serves as Associate Director of the Centre for Philosophy, Religion and Social Ethics (CPRSE) at the Institute for Christian Studies. Through his leadership at the CPRSE, Héctor collaborated in two multi-year research projects exploring the relation of faith and society funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). The outcomes of the first of these projects can be found in Just Faith? A National Survey Connecting Faith and Justice within the Christian Reformed Church. The second of these projects, entitled Faith and Settlement Partnerships: Setting Immigrants and Canada up for Success explored the collaboration between faith-based initiatives and government-funded organizations in refugee settlement.
In 2016, Héctor joined Martin Luther University College, Wilfrid Laurier University as an Adjunct Faculty member, where he teaches undergraduate and graduate courses on intersectionality, theology, social justice, and youth engagement. Passionate about bolstering student-led research, Héctor has supervised students in their BA Christian Studies & Global Citizenship capstone project, a research-based project that fosters integration of learnings and in-depth scholarly reflection at the undergraduate level.
Originally from Bogotá, Colombia, Héctor is currently pursuing doctoral studies at the Institute for Christian Studies, where he is exploring how Liberation Theology has contributed to the development of distinctive notions of justice and reconciliation in post-colonial Latin America, thereby assisting local civic movements in the pursuit of social transformation for vulnerable communities. Héctor holds a Master of Arts in Philosophy (Institute for Christian Studies), a Master of Divinity & Bachelor of Sacred Theology (Regis College, Toronto) and a Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy (University of Toronto).
